Musical Distraction

So we're off to Switzerland tomorrow! I'm officially excited now that I've gotten through all the getting things done aspects of our trip. As you might know, though, I'm not so keen on flying even though I think it's amazing to live in a time when I can fly. It's really not the flying I mind, it's the idea of crashing. Or more specially, the falling from the sky part of crashing. Or even more specifically, having time to consider that your falling from the sky and about to crash and die. I'm much more likely to die in a car crash, but at least there I'd be on the ground--the idea of a plane crash bothers me much more. So in order not to focus on that, I fill my carry on bag with magazines with lots of pictures (because it's hard for me to actually read words because I'm so distracted by every bump and noise) and fill my iPod with tunes. Some of the not-so-new tunes I've put on the pod are Little River Band's Greatest Hits. Now, I know some people might think, "what? Little River Band? is she kidding?" Actually, no, I love it! This is one of my favorite CDs of all time. I'm not sure why I don't actually own it (until tonight when I bought it on iTunes) except that I think I just have all the songs burned in my mind. My mom played this album more than anything else I can remember when I was growing up. It gives me those quintessential childhood warm and fuzzy feelings. Like in Ratatouille when Anton Ego, the food critic, takes the bite of ratatouille and is immediately transported in his mind back to his childhood kitchen table where his mom served him delicious ratatouille--well, that's me when I listen to this CD. It feels like home. Just what I need when I fly. I think maybe I should download some Crosby, Stills and Nash too. Nothing like "Southern Cross" to make me feel like home too.
