Tote Sewing

Last week I made a tote bag for a friend. I used a grain sack I bought from the flea market from Trinovante Trading. They are the vendors who have piles and piles of amazing grain sacks and bolts of grain sack fabric at Kempton ParkScroll down on this post to see part of their space. Heaven in a grain sack! I wanted to use some Liberty fabric for the trim, but I only had a small strip and not enough to make proper bias tape, but I managed to make it work well enough. I love to box corners! I've made a few totes without boxed corners, totes for books or magazines, but for a larger tote, boxed corners are the way to go! If you've never done them before, I recommend just getting someone to show you or watch a quick video. The first time I tried to box corners just reading instructions from a pattern, I thought my brain would pop. But it's simple once you know. Making a tote in general is really easy and fun. A great beginner project and always fun to give to friends.

Hey, that turned out really beautifully. I'm about to try my hand at making a tote bag; such a useful thing to have around, isn't it? :) I also love the little floral detail you put into it. :)
