7 Month Birthday

I'm a few days behind with Lois' 7 month birthday pictures, but it was worth the wait. I wanted to wait until we were here to put her in her bathing suit for her first dip in the pool (an itty bitty pool with about 2 inches of water). Aren't baby bathing suits the cutest things ever? I almost bought her a yellow polka dot bikini, but I didn't want her little belly to get too much sun. So we went with a one piece heart print suit. Here she is in my mom's backyard yesterday. It was so much fun! She also had her first swing on the swing set and her first slide at the playground (with grandma holding her). A day of firsts.

It's been a few weeks since I posted these 7 month birthday pictures, but I realized that every time I post her monthly birthday pictures, I'm in a hurry for some reason, and I never mention her developments. I have a feeling I'll regret that later, so I decided to start mentioning those too. This was the first birthday photo shoot where Lois could actually sit up on her own. She's sitting up really well now and only falls over after a few minutes or when she tries to grab something. It's so much easier now to take her picture. Before I'd be holding one arm, and quickly let go to take a picture, then grab her arm again so she wouldn't fall over! She's also waving lately. I think it's intentional sometimes, but she's probably just interested in her arm and hand. She's rolling all over the place, and she also scoots up on her feet with her behind in the air but manages to move backward more than forward. It's really cute, and we call her "scooter" lately. She also does this thing where she makes a sound like ahhhhhhh and moves her hand, balled in a fist, over her mouth in an up and down motion, which makes a wa, wa, wa sort of sound. Every day is exciting with Lois. It's so fun to see her learn and grow.

For Keeps

Last week Caroline told me about an estate sale she thought I'd like to check out. When I looked at the pictures advertising the sale, like the one above, I knew I had to go (later I emailed Lisa about it, and of course she had already been and made quite a dent in her own wallet). I really wanted to see that little dress hanging from the bedpost in person and hoped it was still there. It was even better in person, and I bought it! At first I thought I might want to sell it in my etsy shop, but it's a keeper for sure. I don't think I'd actually have Lois wear it, but I thought it would look pretty in her room one day. I picture a little girl's room in shades of pale pink and ivory. I'm not really a pastel gal--neutral, bold and dark colors appeal to me more, but I can just picture this dress hanging on pale pink walls. It's silk and a perfect champagne color with a hint of shimmer to it. The hem is out, but that can be fixed.

I just got a few other little things at the sale, but earlier in the week, I found this dress, pictured below, at the Salvation Army and it's a keeper too. A soon as I saw it I hoped it would fit me, and it did! It's a great shape and knee length. I love the colors and the print. A lucky find for sure. With thrifting, I only get this lucky every once in a while--something great is either the wrong size, has a spot or tear, or something else is wrong with it. This one's close to perfect.

I'm at my mom's now in Atlanta and sooooo excited! I already went to the Goodwill near my mom's with my grandma (this thrifting, it's a family affair). I know, I have a shopping addiction. At least it's thrift shopping. I only spent $11 this morning. Oh, and I'll post Lois' 7 month birthday pictures soon.

First Mother's Day

The days are getting away from me lately. On Wednesday I went online to order both our moms flowers, and when I saw the shipping charge (express rates to be there by Sunday), I realized how behind I was in doing anything for Mother's Day for them. I haven't even sent cards yet! Our moms really won't mind, though, and we'll see them next week anyway. I was also planning on doing some fun Mother's Day blog posts with gift ideas, but it just hasn't happened. I know what I'd like for my first Mother's day, even if I'll be a little late getting it. I saw these adorable silhouette necklaces from Lucky Me Beads before I was pregnant and knew I'd want one one day if we ended up with a little bundle. It took a while to get a good picture of Lois' profile, but we finally got one that I think will work. I love silhouettes. My grandma has a gold charm bracelet with each charm being one of her 4 kid's silhouettes with their names engraved on the backsides. It's so cute and such a nice way to capture the memory of your little bundle's chubby face. Here are a few more silhouette ideas from etsy sellers that I have my eye on. I actually bought a set of the cowboy cards for my nephew, Cash, for his birthday. So cute.

Couples above from Blue Clara.

Custom family silhouette pillow from Le Papier Studio.

One of the most interesting silhouette ideas I've seen--a custom leaf silhouette from Jenny Lee Fowler.

Cute custom cards for the little ones from By Cheryl Images.

Feeling Blue

Recently I seem to be drawn to floral prints that incorporate lots of blue when I'm out hunting for my etsy shop. Yeah, that other etsy shop. I'm having a hard time keeping up myself! When I first saw the skirt below I thought the fabric would be great for a pillow, but the skirt is too cute as it is, especially with the side hip pockets, so I can't cut it up.

But my very favorite most recent thing for my etsy shop is this bathing suit top. The print is so fun. It would be perfect just paired up with some solid colored bottoms or shorts. If you see anything you like, scoop it up soon! We're headed to Atlanta on Sunday for a two week trip to go see our families. Can't wait!

Wallpaper Projects

Our friends Lauren and Derek wrote a great new craft book on, you guessed it, wallpaper projects. The book is filled with so many fun craft projects, and of course they scouted some amazing wallpaper for the book--designs both new and vintage. And guess who's thanked in the acknowledgments? Moi! I know. I couldn't believe it either. My name in a real book! I felt so special when I saw that. Really, though, I just helped out by working at their shop and had nothing to do with the actual book. I'd like to make something out of it though. You should too.
