Feeling Peachy

Lately I seem to be drawn to green, yellow and peachy-orange colors. I recently found some really pretty vintage clothes, including two great 50s dresses, the sweater below, and some cute children's clothes as well. As I was measuring them to list them in my etsy shop, I looked up and saw Stella next to the tulips and thought how pretty she looked there with the tulips, and how pretty she and the tulips looked next to the clothes I was listing. Then I noticed how many other green, yellow, and orangish things were around me in our apartment. I'm always drawn to red and green colors, but shades of yellow and orange, including peachy-salmon colors, seem to be taking over around here.

Giveaway Day!

Today is giveaway day and as promised, I'm giving away something from my etsy shop. I'll be doing this on the 1st and the 15th of every month, so mark your calendar! Today's giveaway is a really cute lady head vase! I love lady head vases, and I found this one recently at the Alemany Flea Market. There she is pictured below in her natural habitat (the flea market). So go ahead, chime in and leave a comment if you want to see her on your dressing table topped with cute spring flowers, or cute pens, or whatever you want to fill her with. This giveaway runs until 12 PM pacific time on Thursday the 16th. It would be nice to get something for free on tax day, wouldn't it?

Tea Time Swiss Style

One of my favorite new etsy shops that I stumbled upon recently is Swiss Fizz. I've been wanting to have a tea party sometime soon, so I've been poking around looking at cute tea pots and whatnot. She has so many great thing in her shop, but here are a few that I especially like as I dream of tea time with blueberry scones, clotted cream and vanilla rooibos tea. Wouldn't all these gold, peachy and blue colors look great with that spread? Who wants to come over?!

Gourmet Weekend, Gourmet Husband

This weekend Andrew cooked up a storm of deliciousness from a few recipes from this month's issue of Gourmet magazine. Flank steak sandwiches and a candied fennel cake. Wow, they were both so good--get down good, as my sister would say. Andrew's definitely the chef of the family, whereas I'm the sous chef and sometimes prep cook. This weekend, though, I didn't do anything but eat the food. I kept offering to help, asking what I could do, but he was flying solo in the kitchen. No co-pilot needed, not even for clean-up (lucky me). I cook too, but not as often or as well. He also makes more time-consuming and adventurous dishes than I would even consider. Once, he made a spare rib dish that took three days and required cleaning the whole kitchen about 5 times. These two recipes weren't as involved and they were both great, especially the fennel cake. YUM. It was so hard not to gobble the whole thing down. I had to save a piece for Caroline, who is a great cook and often makes amazing dishes from Gourmet magazine recipes. She said she was going to make this one too.

I'm more likely to bake something. The Gourmet magazine cover reminded me that I haven't blogged about our picnic last weekend when we went to the park with friends. I made strawberry shortcake with heart shaped shortcakes. As I was making the biscuits, I thought of Alicia's heart shaped biscuits on her chicken pot pie (and her heart shaped pancakes, and her heart shaped waffles), which I can't find on her blog right now, but they're there somewhere, looking cute. Mine were cute too.
