Vintage Jane

I'm always on the lookout for fun vintage things for Lois' room even though I can't really fit anything else in there. My favorite things I've found are probably the cute wooden pull toy I got at the Alemany Flea Market a while back and all of her vintage books. It's so hard to pick one favorite book, but I love the colors and covers of The Mitten and the Make It Book. I was hopping around on etsy looking at cute vintage kid's stuff (as if I could fit one more thing in that room, especially with all my etsy stuff taking over every inch of space in there). If I did have room, though, I'd want to fill it with treasures from Vintage Jane's shop. I love this little shop! Here are just a few things from Vintage Jane. I might be able to make room for one of those cute little girl head pillows.

Room For Everyone

My sister had baby #3 last week on April 2nd. Little baby Knox! He was 4 weeks early but doing great. Since he's the third, she still has plenty of baby stuff. So for her gift, I bought her a Whole Foods gift card so she and her husband could stock up on yummy prepared foods. When we first brought Lois home, the last thing we wanted to do for at least two weeks was cook, and it was so nice that so many of our friends brought us food. I'm not there to bring them food, so I thought a Whole Foods gift card was the next best thing. I also got her this cute print called "Room for Everyone" from Cathy Nichols on etsy. I saw it soon after my sister first found out she was pregnant. Knox was a "surprise" and she didn't know how they would fit one more person, though little, in their small 3 bedroom house. Their house is so cute and really nice, but it is small. I thought this print would be perfect for the boy's room (Cash and Wyatt's bedroom). It doesn't take up much space, and the sentiment is perfect. The whole family is there in the tree. I think she will love it!

Feathered Friends

Have you seen the March issue of Martha Stewart Living with the "Flights of Fancy" article? Well, if you like to use birds in your decorating, or table settings, you'll probably like this article. Birds are timeless and probably won't ever go out of style. When I looked at the table setting above I thought I was seeing one of my bird salt and pepper shakers. The bird in the magazine is actually a condiment server and not part of a set of salt and pepper shakers (hence its missing mate).

Here are my S-n-P birds (Sally and Peter). My mom gave them to me. She always finds the best things! I love them. Peter is missing a foot, but that's okay. I have a little collection of salt and pepper shakers, and these are some of my favorites.

Here are just a few more pictures from the article showing some beautiful flatware.

Speaking of feathered friends, meet my new hatpin friend that I bought at the flea market this weekend. I'm trying to figure out what kinds of feathers are on the pin and if the base is sterling. What do you think? Is it even a hatpin for sure? The woman I bought it from said it was and she had a lot of vintage hats and clothes and seemed to know what she was talking about. Do you think you can tell me anything about this hatpin? I've found some information online but want to see what you guys think to be sure before I list it in my etsy shop.

And I want to say thanks to Dawn from The Feathered Nest for sending over so many of her friends last week for my jewelry giveaway! I think almost all the comments came over from her blog friends, so thanks Dawn! And she's one of the main reasons I have a blog in the first place. I remember being at The Plum Tree with my mom and seeing Dawn there when she tried to convince me I should have a blog, and now I do!

This was so much fun that I think I will have 2 giveaways a month! One on the 1st from my vintage clothes and accessories shop and one on the 15th from my vintage housewares shop. Hope to hear from you all again then!

Giveaway Fun!!

Thanks to everyone who wrote in for the Domino book giveaway! It's been so much fun getting all the comments! The book looks so good on my dressing table that it's going to be hard to part with it. I guess I need to get my own copy! Well, I printed the comments and cut them all into strips and put them in a hat (for real, I really did this!) so the drawing would be random and fair. So the lucky winners are . . . . drum roll here . . . . Katherine from Off the Map and Glenda from Romantic French Country! Yay, lucky winners! (I'll be in touch to get your addresses.)

As promised, I have more giveaway fun for you! I'm going to start having monthly vintage giveaways from my vintage etsy shops on the 1st of each month. I just didn't want to kick it off on April fool's day. No joke, though--each month on the first I'm going to have a giveaway for something from one of my shops! I wanted to give away a piece of jewelry for the first round, but I couldn't decide what to give away, so one lucky winner will get to choose what they want--one thing from the jewelry section of my shop. This giveaway runs from today at noon PST until tomorrow, April 3rd, at noon PST. Here are just a few examples of jewelry I have in my shop right now. Go take a peek to see what else is there in case you're the winner! I'll choose the winner randomly from the comments. I'm not putting all my jewelry on hold or taking it out of my shop, so be sure to check back on Friday afternoon so that you can choose your piece if you're the winner, that way if you have your eye on something, it most likely won't sell before you have a chance to snatch it up!
